DWP Reduces Travel Costs and Encourages Flexible Working with Logitech Video Conferencing

OVERVIEW

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is the British government’s department responsible for welfare, pensions and child maintenance policy. DWP is the UK's largest governmental department, and it employs around 90,000 people in over 800 offices across the UK. By upgrading from an inadequate legacy system to Logitech Rally and MeetUp with Skype Room Systems in over 280 rooms across the UK, the department is saving time on unnecessary travel, improving collaboration and reducing its carbon footprint.

CHALLENGE

Whilst the DWP had experimented with video conferencing to try and tackle unnecessary business travel and improve collaboration, the previous legacy solution suffered from poor audio and video quality. It also came with an expensive managed service subscription fee. With plans to eventually roll out Microsoft Teams, the DWP needed a solution that provided future-proofing, superior performance and seamless integration.

SOLUTION

The DWP installed Logitech Rally and MeetUp conference cameras with Skype Room System in 280 rooms in over 150 locations across the UK. The Logitech solutions were selected for their high-quality audio, HD video and competitive price, which far outperformed the previous legacy system. Another key factor was that the solutions could be managed in-house, without the need for expensive managed service fees, and a smooth transition to Microsoft Teams.

RESULT

With higher quality solutions in place the DWP has seen video conferencing become far more popular with employees, providing better flexible working options. This has helped it to save costs on unnecessary business travel and improve collaboration, while reducing its carbon footprint and saving on taxpayer funded travel expenses. Following the success of the initial rollout, and at the request of employees, the DWP is now looking to equip a further 52 meeting rooms with Logitech video conferencing solutions, to ensure its workforce is more agile and productive.

“ The DWP is a vast organization with tens of thousands of employees based in hundreds of offices from Penzance to the Shetland Islands. With our workforce spread across the country, video conferencing has always been an obvious choice for improving collaboration. However, our previous video conferencing service was proving inadequate, which was deterring employees from using it. With a wider move towards Microsoft Teams on the horizon, we decided to switch to Logitech. The new solutions have been a real hit with our employees, delivering excellent performance and seamless integration with our existing work collaboration applications. Being able to manage the technology in house also means we can now be proactive in our incident response, meaning less downtime for users.”
